With locations ranging from tropical Kisumu on Lake Victoria to Eldoret in the highlands and Mombasa’s vacation region on the coast, the AG German Institute offers German courses in Kenya’s five largest cities. The various branches are a reflection of the country’s immense diversity. Diversity and openness are also omnipresent at the language institute, from the team, which is made up of seven different nationalities, to the students, who come there from many East African countries to learn German.
The main location of the AG German Institute and therefore also the ÖSD examination center is in Nairobi, an economic center of East Africa.
“With almost 500 students, we are one of the largest language schools in East Africa. By being licensed as an ÖSD examination center, we are the first language school, alongside the Goethe-Institut, to have our own language examination license,” says Kerem Akdogan, examination official and owner, proudly.
Most of the German learners at the AG German Institute are young adults who have just finished school, training or university. They are planning to go to Germany or Austria because they want to study or work there.
To cater for the different daily schedules, the institute offers morning courses for early birds, afternoon courses for late risers and evening courses for working people. “As we believe that the best way to learn a language is face-to-face, our courses are taught in person,” says Mr Akdogan. With modern, well-equipped rooms and excellent teaching staff, the AG German Institute provides favourable learning conditions. With monthly internal examinations, students are optimally prepared for the acquisition of German certificates.
As an ÖSD examination center, the institute would like to better meet the high demand for German examinations in Kenya. Overall capacities are so overloaded and the waiting lists so long that language students have to move to neighbouring countries for the exams or wait months. The situation should be improved for both internal and external students. In the medium term, the AG German Institute is aiming for an examination center in western Kenya so that German learners no longer have to endure dangerous journeys halfway across the country or even further.
AG German Institute offers German examinations at the following levels for both external and internal candidates:
