Pluricentricity: diversity as a principle<\/h2>\n

The \u00d6SD stands for a pluricentric view of language: All standard varieties of German \u2013 as spoken primarily in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland<\/strong> \u2013 are considered equal.<\/p>\n

For the \u00d6SD, this means: Our exams reflect the diversity of the language<\/strong> \u2013 deliberately and systematically. Because, as our Managing Director, Dr. Manuela Glaboniat<\/strong>, emphasizes: “This doesn’t mean unnecessarily expanding the learning material. Rather, it’s about demonstrating the natural variation of standard German!”<\/p>\n

This approach has clear benefits for learners: They are specifically prepared for the linguistic and cultural diversity in German-speaking countries<\/strong>. This means that people who study and examine with the \u00d6SD understand that German sounds different in Vienna than in Zurich or Hamburg and learn how to deal with these differences competently.<\/p>\n

Diversity in the examination offering<\/h2>\n

The \u00d6SD’s extensive range of examinations<\/strong> is also entirely dedicated to diversity. Every year, around 100,000 people worldwide take an \u00d6SD examination \u2013 at one of our over 500 examination centers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There are 17 examination variants<\/strong> to choose from \u2013 for all language levels from A1 to C2<\/strong>, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).<\/p>\n
