Examination goal

The exam ÖSD Zertifikat Deutsch Österreich / Jugendliche is aimed at adolescents speaking German as a second language aged between 12 and 16 and acts as proof of language competence in communicative situations that go beyond the private sphere, as well as (semi-)public and specific subjects in specialist fields in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and the Rahmencurriculum for Integrationcourses (Goethe Institut). All texts and situations within the exam cover the daily life in Austria.The emphasis is on communicative competence but attention is also paid to formal accuracy.
The exam ÖSD Zertifikat Deutsch Österreich / Jugendliche is conducted by the ÖSD and was developed from the exam B1 Zertifikat Deutsch which was a joint product in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut, telc GmbH and the Center for Language Learning and Research at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland.

Examination parts

Reading comprehension

Overall, detailed and selective comprehension of different texts from Austria is assessed in three tasks.

Language elements

Grammar and vocabulary knowledge are assessed in two tasks.
Duration of Reading comprehension & Language elements: 90 minutes

Listening comprehension

Global and detailed comprehension of audio texts in the standard language as spoken in Austria is assessed in three tasks.
Duration: approx. 30 minutes

Writing skills

Candidates have to write a personal letter e-mail of reply, using four different guidelines. This e-mail is assessed according to prescribed criteria.
Duration: 40 minutes

Speaking

Candidates have to talk in three different tasks in pairs or alone. First, candidates have to introduce themselves to each other. Second, candidates have to describe a given topic and discuss it together. Finally, candidates have to plan a given activity togehter. The oral part is assessed according to prescribed criteria.
Duration: approx. 15 minutes

Examination centers

ÖSD Zertifikat Deutsch Österreich / Jugendliche exams are conducted independently of language courses at licensed ÖSD examination centers throughout Austria.

Examination dates

Information on dates and registration can be obtained directly from ÖSD examination centers or the ÖSD Central Office in Vienna.

Examination procedure

Candidates are tested and graded by two authorized ÖSD examiners. A diploma will be awarded when both the written and the oral part have been passed. An inspection of the grading sheet is possible on demand.
