Where and when can I register for the exam?

Please register directly at the examination center where you wish to take the exam. Important: registration in Austria is possible up to 4 weeks before the exam; other countries require registration at least 6 weeks in advance!
You cannot register for an exam with the ÖSD itself, but we are happy to help you find an examination date or an examination center.

How can I prepare myself for the exam?

ÖSD exams are not based on a specific language course, which means that you do not have to attend a German course first.
However, please make sure that you know how our exams work and what kind of tasks they include. That's why many examination centers offer preparatory courses which introduce you to the ÖSD test format and give you practice for the exam.
You can also work on your own. Practice materials can be ordered online or directly from the ÖSD.

What happens if I did not pass one part of the exam?

Should you fail one part of the exam (written or oral), you will get a certificate from your examination center stating "failed". You may retake the part of the exam that was not passed within one year at any ÖSD examination center. You will only be charged half of the examination fee. Don't forget to bring along your "failed" certificate when re-registering for the ÖSD exam!
